N°4: ‘Cashew-colored’ linen parachute bag used by French aircraft pilots / 1939-40 / rare
This extremely rare piece was made by Bamberger & Co in 1939. It has a manufacturer's label in white cloth, dated "DEC 1939", with the date and serial number.
With its unusual shape and circular base, this bag was used to carry "Le Mercier" parachutes (a French company specializing in aeronautical equipment), used in fighter planes.
It's cashew-colored linen is resistant and washable.
The zip is made by "Eclair". Its two fasteners are specific to the pre-1940 era.
The inside of the bag is natural.
à Interesting fact
When a pilot returned from a mission, their parachute was checked. Once checked, the parachute was locked up in its bag with a padlock, to make sure it would be 100% operational the next time it was used.
