Worn green leather gibeciere

THE DIANE GIBECIÈRE FROM BLEU DE CHAUFFE

A MODERN, URBAN VERSION OF THE TRADITIONAL HUNTER’S GIBECIÈRE

The gibecière, whose origins can be traced back to the Middle Ages, was traditionally a leather hunter’s satchel. It was used to carry small game animals, as well as anything else you might need for a day out hunting. It was carried with a shoulder strap, as it still is today, and its practicality and style have made it popular with a wide range of people, from manual workers to elegant urbanites.

A FUNCTIONAL SATCHEL WITH A UNIQUE LOOK

Although it began as a hunter’s satchel, the gibecière was then gradually adopted by a range of professionals, including delivery men and women, assistants, and collection clerks. In the 20th century it became widely used across all areas of modern life, for work and leisure, and this practical bag is now also an attractive fashion accessory.

The gibecière retains the original closure from the hunting satchel, with a large flap that covers almost the entire bag, and it has also kept the shoulder strap. This makes it easy to access the bag’s contents with one hand, which is what makes it so practical.

THE DIANE LEATHER GIBECIÈRE: A FEMININE, ELEGANT, URBAN BAG FROM BLEU DE CHAUFFE

Bleu de Chauffe has taken a fresh look at the traditional gibecière to create the Diane, a feminine leather gibecière with structured lines and bold curves, inspired by early 20th century archive photographs.

Made from stiff vegetable-tanned leather and put together using saddle stitch, this satchel is closer to the world of saddle-making than anything else, yet it is still a highly elegant gibecière for the urban woman.

The loops and chapes on the sides serve to attach straps inspired by traditional riding crops – signature features of the Bleu de Chauffe gibecière bag.

The Diane gibecière comes in three sizes and in a range of colors.

The Diane L is the largest of our gibecières, and has room for all your everyday items, from cellphones to bulky woolen scarves. It can also be used for a bit of shopping or to carry your lunch to work, but thanks to the stiff leather it keeps its elegant look even when almost empty. It has a capacity of 3.5L.

The Diane M is our medium-sized model (1.9L capacity). It is the ideal gibecière for all your urban activities. Of course it has space for all those little day-to-day items – cellphone, several pairs of glasses, keys – but it is also large enough to carry a book, a notebook, or a pair of gloves…

The smallest model in this line is the Diane S. This mini gibecière with its ultra-compact design is made for women who only need to take a few items with them every day: cellphone, keys, a pair of glasses, a small coin purse or card holder, and who do not need a large bag (the S has a capacity of 0.9L).

All our Diane gibecières have a small purse inside made from organic cotton, for items you want to keep separate from the rest of the bag, for example your keys.

THE DIANE GIBECIÈRE, MADE FROM START TO FINISH AT THE BLEU DE CHAUFFE WORKSHOP IN THE AVEYRON REGION

All Bleu de Chauffe bags and accessories are entirely produced at our workshop in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon, at the foot of the famous Millau viaduct. Like all our bags, every Diane gibecière is made by a single artisan, who signs their name on the inside pocket.

All the leather we use at Bleu de Chauffe, without exception, is tanned using vegetable agents. Vegetable tanning is a traditional process that takes longer and costs more than chrome tanning, which has become the main method used in leather manufacturing.

However, apart from the beautiful natural patina leather acquires with vegetable tanning, this method is also much better for the environment. The chrome and heavy metals used in chrome tanning are extremely polluting and can even be toxic for the skin. Vegetable tanning, on the other hand, uses natural agents produced from plants and trees such as chestnut, mimosa, oak, or acacia.

With its various sizes and colors, the Diane gibecière is a perfect fit whatever you need it for and whatever your style. These are unique, timeless pieces with character: everyday accessories that will last a lifetime.

A modern take on traditional work bags, high-quality artisanship, local, ethical production, made to last, a unique style: the Diane gibecière is the epitome of the spirit of Bleu de Chauffe. Everyday bags with character.
