The Bleu de Chauffe artisan leather bag
The Bleu de Chauffe leather bag is a top-quality French artisanal bag. The entire Bleu de Chauffe bag production process, from design to finished product, takes place in our workshop in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon, Aveyron, in south-west France. This means we have complete control over every stage of production, as well as quality control.
Each craftsman or woman carries out every stage of production by hand: assembly, stitching, joining, dyeing the edges and stitching.
Since the first Bleu de Chauffe bags, reinterpretations of twentieth-century trade bags that are still among our most popular, the collection has grown to include a complete range of bags, from travel bags to handbags, from saddlebags to backpacks, from business bags to photo bags. All in keeping with the workwear spirit of our beginnings.
Producing ethically and responsibly has been at the heart of the Bleu de Chauffe project from the outset. In contrast to dehumanized industrial production lines, our craftsmen take the time needed to create each and every one of their bags.
Leatherworking is a highly polluting industry in 90% of cases, as leathers are mostly dyed with chromium and other heavy metals. To avoid this heavy metal pollution, the consequences of which are often dramatic in many countries, the leathers we use are exclusively vegetable-tanned European leathers. The leathers are dyed using natural agents derived from trees and plants: oak, acacia, chestnut, mimosa... In addition to their ecological qualities, vegetable-tanned leathers do not cause allergies on contact with the skin, they patinate naturally and gain in cachet over time.
