"Gibier" (meaning Wild Game in French), gibecière … In the Middle Ages, hunters placed their small catches in this large canvas or leather bag, which they carried over their shoulders. The gibecière bag, still in medieval times in France, was also a wide and flat pouch that street performers wore on their belts, in the front, to perform their tricks in village and city squares. Needless to say, the imagination surrounding the gibecière is rich, evoking treasures and adventure!
Its Reinvention by Bleu de Chauffe
At Bleu de Chauffe, our love for professional bags led us in 2021 to reinterpret the gibecière bag, with stylistic nods to the equestrian world. Our clear intention was to make it one of the signature pieces in our women's collection, which it quickly became. We named it "the Diane" in homage to the Roman goddess of the hunt. She was proud and independent, just like the women we love to celebrate at Bleu de Chauffe!

Material Focus:
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Why this ethical choice? Vegetable tanning has been a cornerstone of our craftsmanship at Bleu de Chauffe since the very beginning. Your Diane gibecière by Bleu de Chauffe has been handcrafted from full-grain leather, tanned using organic substances (bark, leaves, and sap from acacia, mimosa, and chestnut trees…).
This artisanal process results in waterproof leather of exceptional quality and softness. Most importantly, it is entirely safe and non-toxic, unlike chrome-tanned leather and falsely labeled "vegetable-tanned" leathers.
And to keep it in perfect condition, all you need is a cloth, some leather milk, and you’re ready for a simple care routine you can find here. This will nourish your gibecière’s leather, reduce potential scratches, and enhance its patina—ensuring better protection over the years.

All our Bleu de Chauffe bags are entirely designed and crafted in our workshop in St-Georges-de-Luzençon, at the foot of the Millau Viaduct. Your Diane gibecière was brought to life by the hands of the same artisan, who carefully shaped it from start to finish and added their final signature inside.
