Vintage workwear inspiration behind Bleu de Chauffe leather bags

Bleu de Chauffe, Workwear Spirit

“Bleu de chauffe” was the name given to the blue jacket worn by railway workers in the early days of the railroad, when they had to heat water and build up pressure in the first steam locomotives. This is how the expression “Bleu de Chauffe” was born.

During the 20th century, workers and craftsmen naturally adopted this garment. With its simple design and solid construction, the bleu de chauffe is a functional and roomy piece of clothing that allows the wearer to stay protected while remaining comfortable throughout the day.

Inspired by the workers and craftsmen who carried these traditional work bags, we wanted to bring style, ingenuity, simplicity, and authenticity to our collections. This combination of elements—what we might call a “French sense of style”—is something we express every season through our collections and reflects the pride Bleu de Chauffe artisans take in a job well done.

Vegetable-tanned leather used for Bleu de Chauffe bags

BLEU DE CHAUFFE, ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT

Bleu de Chauffe leathers are natural and vegetable-tanned. Vegetable tanning transforms leather using natural agents such as mimosa, chestnut, or acacia. The Bleu de Chauffe tannery pays the utmost attention to water treatment. After use, the water is settled, treated, and released back into the river as pure as when it first entered.
