The origin of the postman bag
The iconic figure of the postman is part of our collective heritage. Who doesn’t remember this messenger, with a blue cap on his head, traveling the roads of France with his leather satchel, filled with thousands of letters? Many waited for him eagerly, hoping to receive love letters or important news. The postman was truly a "connector," and his satchel, weathered by time, holds a special place in our hearts.
The reinvention of the Eclair bag
Deeply attached to this emotional symbol, we wanted to design a model that honors this heritage. The leather bag Éclair is our first creation, launched in 2010. We reinterpreted the 1940s design, and the Eclair postman bag has become a signature piece of Bleu de Chauffe, loved by both women and men. Reinventing is also about paying tribute to the craftsmanship of the original designers. Every detail of these historical models is designed for use, and this perfectly applies to the leather briefcase Eclair, a true work bag.
We chose vegetable-tanned leather, respecting the tradition of a time when chrome tanning did not exist. Our model, named "Éclair," evokes movement and liveliness, while being adapted to our modern needs.
A functional briefcase for men
At first glance, the authenticity of its "work bag" spirit stands out and evokes a particular emotion. Its sturdiness and numerous functional features immediately appeal. Nomadic and all-terrain, this men's briefcase can be carried in several ways: by hand with its leather handle, over the shoulder, or across the body.
The iconic "postman carry" on the back makes it easy to access the contents quickly, especially when biking. The inspiration from American "messenger" bags is clear. At Bleu de Chauffe, workwear style equals comfort: the shoulder strap is lined with felt, providing both comfort and durability, just like the work bags of the past.
The interior is protected by a large flap with two straps that close easily with a collar button. This system, invisible from the outside, was designed for practicality. The side flaps reinforce the bag's durability, distributing the weight across the side straps rather than the seams.
Inside, a felt pocket is specifically designed for your laptop. Choose the size that suits you: S, M, or L. The Éclair postman bag is a faithful companion, sturdy and stylish, to be adopted for life!
Focus on material: vegetable-tanned leather
Our leathers, with soft tones, come from our trusted tanning partners, with whom we have worked since the beginning. These are top-quality full-grain leathers, ensuring optimal quality. The leather is tanned using natural pigments extracted from organic substances such as leaves, bark, mimosa sap, chestnut, or oak. This artisanal and ancient process excludes any chemicals or harmful substances, both for humans and the environment. In addition, this type of tanning gives our leather bags a softer, more natural feel with better durability and water resistance.
How to clean your leather bag?
To preserve the beauty of your leather bag, adopt a simple routine. Dust the leather with a slightly damp cloth, then let it dry. Once dry, apply our natural leather lotion to a clean cloth to clean and nourish your Eclair leather satchel. Repeat this process twice a year to ensure its longevity!
The Eclair, the artisanal leather briefcase
All Bleu de Chauffe bags are designed and crafted in our workshop in St-Georges-de-Luzençon. Each satchel is followed by a craftsman, respecting the tradition.
