History of the Cartouchière
The cartridge pouch is a small leather or canvas bag that originated in the late 19th century. At that time, soldiers and hunters were looking for a safe and practical way to carry their cartridges and ammunition on expeditions.
Designs can vary, but generally feature one or more compartments covered by a protective flap. Worn over the shoulder or attached to a belt for quick access to its contents, this item evolved over time to meet the changing needs of the army (especially from the 1930s onward). Its history reflects human ingenuity in the quest for reliable, accessible equipment at crucial times.

The character of the cartridge bag

Focus on the material: vegetable tanned leather
In keeping with tradition, we handcraft our cartridge belts from full-grain leather tanned with natural substances such as mimosa, acacia, and chestnut. This artisanal process gives the leather greater durability, improved waterproofing and a naturally soft look and feel, with the added bonus of an incredible patina over the years. This leather is extremely easy to care for, and thanks to natural products, you can beautify and prolong the life of your cartridge belt. All you need to do is maintain the leather with a regular application of natural milk every 3 to 6 months, depending on use.
