The Melo tote is crafted from Japanese selvedge denim woven in Kojima, Okayama Prefecture—the historic birthplace of Japanese denim. An exceptional fabric whose rich indigo shades, subtle irregularities, and textured surface already tell a story.

Slow-woven on traditional shuttle looms, this denim develops remarkable visual depth and a rare authenticity. Over time, it naturally evolves, acquiring a unique patina that reflects every journey and every use.

Selvedge—the tightly woven finished edge created directly on the loom—is a hallmark of exceptional craftsmanship. More than a technical feature, it represents a thoughtful approach to manufacturing where quality and durability take precedence over speed.

The history of denim itself forms a connection between Japan and France. Its name derives from the French sergé de Nîmes, the durable twill fabric that inspired denim before being reinterpreted by Japanese master weavers.
