The Meline tote is crafted from Japanese selvedge denim woven in Kojima, Okayama Prefecture—the historic birthplace of Japanese denim. An exceptional fabric whose every shade of indigo, subtle irregularity, and distinctive texture tells a story.

Slow-woven on traditional shuttle looms with low production yields, this denim develops a unique visual depth and remarkable authenticity. Over time, its character naturally evolves, gradually acquiring a personal patina shaped by everyday use and movement.

The selvedge edge—woven directly into the fabric during production—is a hallmark of exceptional craftsmanship. More than a technical feature, it reflects a thoughtful approach to manufacturing, where quality and durability take precedence over speed.

The story of denim itself is rooted in a connection between Japan and France. Its name originates from the sergé de Nîmes ("de Nîmes" fabric), a robust twill woven in southern France that has endured through the centuries before being reinterpreted by Japan's master weavers.
